Eligibility: Any American citizen whose home is in Virginia and who will be at least 18 years old by the next general election is eligible to register to vote.

Cost: Registration is free, there is no fee.

Where and how: Eligible citizens can register at any time except the 28 day period before Primary or General Elections.

You may register at the Office of the Registrar of Elections located on Main Street in Palmyra (see picture), (434) 589-3593. The office is open Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the last Saturday of registration. This year, that will be October 4.

You can register in person or request that a form be mailed to you by calling the Registrar's office.

You can also register at the time that you obtain your driver's license or when you register your vehicle at the Department of Motor Vehicles Office in the E.W. Thomas store at the intersection of Rte 53 with Rte 15 in Palmyra (DMV counter open 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 9:00 AM to noon on Saturday).

In Virginia, voters do not register by party affiliation.

Once you are registered, you can vote in all elections in the precinct where you live. However, if you let 4 years go by without voting, your registration lapses.
